Catherine P. Kaufman

Catherine P. Kaufman is an associate at the law firm of Troff, Petzke & Ammeson.  Ms. Kaufman received a Bachelor of Art degree from James Madison College at Michigan State University, with honors, in 1985, a Masters degree in Urban Planning from the University of Michigan in 1987 and a law degree from Wayne State University, cum laude, in 1994.  Prior to joining Troff, Petzke & Ammeson, Ms. Kaufman worked as a planning consultant for McKenna Associates in Kalamazoo, as well as an associate for Bauckham, Sparks, Rolfe, Lohrstorfer & Thall, PC, a municipal law firm in Kalamazoo.  In addition, Ms. Kaufman has also served as a city planner for the City of Southfield, as well as for municipalities in Missouri, Kentucky and Virginia.  Ms. Kaufman is admitted to the State Bars of Missouri (1995), Kentucky (1997) and Michigan (2003), the United States Federal Court (2005) and is a member of both the American Bar Association and the Berrien County Bar Association.

Ms. Kaufman is a member of several professional organizations including the Michigan Bar Association (Real Property Section; Zoning and Land Use Committee), Michigan Association of Planning, American Planning Association and the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).  Ms. Kaufman has also served as an instructor for the MSU Citizen Planner course, as well as teaching seminars for the Michigan Townships Association (MTA) and Michigan Association of Planning (MAP).

Ms. Kaufman focuses her practice in area of real estate, land use, municipal law and probate and estates.  Ms. Kaufman has represented developers and property owners in a variety of matters, including re-zonings, land divisions, variance applications and site plan review.  Ms. Kaufman has also advised municipalities on all manner of municipal issues, particularly in the zoning and land use arena.
